Hello everybody I am making four stepper drivers using the l297 /l298 circuit as shown in the schematic attached The problem is that after i soldered two board and tried them the stepper doesn't spin it just vibrate I tryed to make the stepper move slowly to find that the stepper is vibrating back and forth I tried to change stepper wiring but no chance One of the drivers worked when i adjusted the potentiometer on just on place and the stepper starts to vibrate again on higher speeds So please help me fix this problem. Hello again I found something i think it will be helpful to solve my problem I am using arduino to test my driver and i tried to make the step pin go on and off every 1/2 second, iknow it is too slow but i did that to see how the two leds on motor terminal will act And i found that the led on terminals 3 and 4 is going on and off regularly but the other led doesn't turn on at all Si now i know that my driver isn't driving thd two stepper coils the same I checked the connectivity between all pins on the pcb and all are as it should be like the schematic I hope anybody can help me. I am using atx power supply And my stepper needs 0.4 amp in each coil Today i tried to make a breadboard circuit using l297 and fou darlingtons as a unipolar stepper driver ( my stepper is unipolar) The stepper works good with no vibration I used accelstepper library to control my stepper I foud that the stepper can run on 900 steps per second without vibration and with faster speed it will start to vibrate a lot Is that normal?? Does steppers has max speed?? I am using a steppet called 42bygh801 And thank you again for your help. The Max voltage to use on that motor assuming the Square Root of the Inductance times 32 = 169 Volts well, you ain't gonna get there with what your driver is rated at, and that would be a MAX voltage, you might get that motor to run with 24 volts but it will not run fast.

You really need to read this post I don't think your stepper motor is right for what you are trying to drive it with. Have you studied the Data Sheets for these 2 IC's that you are using? PCB layout seem Critical on that L298 also. One more thing, here is a stepper motor Calculator you can play with so see what different voltages will do. I bought this stepper because i thought it have the right rated voltage and because this are the only steppers i can find in my country with an acceptable price i readed the datasheets of both l297 l298 chips but actually i didn't anderstoud current controlling in l297 datasheet And my driver didn't worked. Maybe it's because i changed all the layout on the board especially the grounds maybe (i didn't used star ground method) But i can change the whole driver idea if you suggest another design even if it uses other chips.
